Welcome! We're thrilled to have you join us. Together, let's embark on a quest to create unforgettable memories. Here are some information you might need before arriving.
📄2026 TSE New Student Handbook (pdf)
Information regarding registration, housing, and other details will be sent to you via email from the Office of Global Affairs and the Division of Registration between July and August. Check out Freshmen Camp for relevant links. For New Student Registration Procedures, please refer to the Division of Registration's 2026 Fall semester Student Registration Procedures & Guidelines(for Foreign Students).
1. Apply for a Resident Visa
Students should refer to the regulations in their respective countries for applying for a resident visa.
2. Access NTHU Student ID Number
The NTHU Registration Office will send your student ID number.
3. About Residential
The application process for dorm rooms is online through the NTHU student portal. Students should apply online according to the accommodation regulations and schedule. Please check the Division of Student Housing website for the latest information.
Fall 2026 students can start moving in from August 24th, 2026, but we recommend moving in during August 29-30th for more dorm housing support and supplies (local move-in weekend). Moving in during this local move-in weekend grants you access to extra housing support and supplies, as the NTHU Student Association (@nthu_sa) typically hosts a freshman discount and bedding fair around August 30–31. Keep an eye on their social media for updates (Note: content will be in Chinese).
If you prefer off-campus accommodation, you can look for rental houses near the university.
4. Course Selection
Please refer to the NTHU Divison of Curriculum's New Student Navigator Course Selection Guide for International Students: https://curricul.site.nthu.edu.tw/p/404-1208-307835.php?Lang=en
Log in to the NTHU Academic Information System (AIS) and select your courses before the given deadline. We recommend referring to the required coursework checklist found under the "Forms" section in our Student Life "Forms and Guidelines" resource page and choosing accordingly.

2. Health Check (Fall 2026) - part of registration process
Essential Dorm Purchases (information from students): Dorms are bare-bones — plan your shopping trip before or shortly after check-in. Note: Look for 單⼈ (single/twin size). The NTHU dorms do not provide mattresses. For sheets, Taiwan typically does not use top sheets (the sheet in between you and the comforter), so just be aware that may be more difficult to find.

Three types of insurance may affect you:
International Group Insurance - Applicable for the first semester of new students.
National Health insurance – This takes effect six months after obtaining an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC).
Student Insurance – Available for registered students of National Tsing Hua University.
Issues to consider
New students should enter Taiwan according to the school registration date and the requirements set by the university. If students enter after the registration date, it can result in them facing an uninsured period of 1-2 months between the two insurance policies. Regardless of their current health conditions, if students have any concerns about the uninsured period occurring between the group insurance and the NHI, they should consider purchasing additional insurance from their home country before leaving.
