Information for New Faculty Onboarding

Authentication of Degree Documents
All faculty in Taiwan with a foreign degree must complete authentication of foreign academic credentials to process the appointment and obtain a Professor Certificate issued by the Ministry of Education after appointment. The degree diploma and transcripts should be notarized by the Taiwan Embassy or Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the country/city where the degree-granting school is located.

After receiving your formal diploma, please contact the Taiwan Embassy or Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the country/city where the degree-granting school is located for assistance on how to apply for authentication services, and provide us with a soft copy of your notarized degree diploma and transcripts upon completion.

The notarized diploma will also be used for Taiwan's visa application; therefore, we recommend applying for two copies of the notarized diploma. The process might take some time, so it is advised that you contact them as soon as you receive the formal diploma.

Information on authentication services
Information on authentication services can be found at each TECO office's website:

(Using the New York office as an example)

For new faculty, we recommend applying for the "Employment Gold Card" in the Field of Education. This 4-in-1 card includes a resident visa, a work permit, an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC), and a re-entry permit. Although new faculty family members may not have formal proof of employment, they can still apply for visas as they are traveling with the new faculty member.

Once you receive the Gold Card, your family members can apply for a Resident Visa. Alternatively, they can enter Taiwan with either a Visa-Exempt Entry or a Visitor Visa. Both the Resident Visa and Visitor Visa can be applied for at the Taiwan Embassy or the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO). After entering Taiwan, they must apply for an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) from the National Immigration Agency to acquire the right to reside.

Employment Gold Card
This 4-in-1 card includes a resident visa, a work permit, an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC), and a re-entry permit, allowing you to leave and re-enter Taiwan multiple times over the course of 1-3 years. This card also provides tax incentives. Applicants can apply online without sponsorship. The application process takes approximately 30-60 days.
