Dear all,

We are pleased to announce the next event in the TSE Research Colloquium Series. Professor Wei-Lin Chen (TSE) will present his research on Tuesday, October 27.

  • 12:00–13:00 | TSE Common Area

  • Electoral Cycles of Informal Taxation and Rice Subsidy Provision: Evidence from Indonesian Villages

This paper examines how electoral incentives shape frontline implementation of taxes and transfers. Using a three-year panel survey of Indonesian villages, Professor Chen documents electoral cycles in informal tax collection and subsidized rice distribution.

Professor Chen’s work offers an important perspective on how local elections shape taxation, redistribution, and the behavior of frontline officials. We warmly encourage students and faculty to join us, learn more about his research, and get to know Professor Chen.
