TSE graduate student Kurt Benjamin Martelino Abalos had the opportunity to join the 2024 Internship at the Institute for Security and Development Policy(ISDP). Let's see what they are doing!

Words from Kurt Benjamin Martelino Abalos:

"Considering that taking a master's can reset one's professional career, I made it a priority to find opportunities to prepare myself before my graduation. Sometimes, we underestimate how fast two years can fly by, especially when you are fully focused and engaged with the program's learnings and requirements. Fortunately, I landed the opportunity to work at one of the world's renowned think tanks.

The Institute of Security and Development Policy is among Sweden's top institutions in its field. It is renowned for its staff, pieces, and events that create a platform for scholars and perspectives to engage with one another. Their work provides stakeholders with valuable, holistic, and well-informed insights in our ever-dynamic world. Hence, when I got the wonderful news that I was accepted for their internship program, I knew it was that once in a lifetime chance. Despite having thesis commitments and limited finances to travel, live, and work in Sweden, I chose to take the chance ,thanks to support from my family.

Throughout my time, not only did I meet new people and learn new perspectives but also work alongside world experts. Knowing that my research and pieces would be used by policy makers and other stakeholders reinforced my passion in the field. Towards the end of the program, I never felt more confident in my career direction. I will always have my "utang ng loob" (debt of gratitude) to the institution for where I am now, and I cannot wait for what lies ahead. I hope future batches of TSE too would take the opportunity to experience this unique chance."
