About the Conference

Since implementing direct presidential elections in 1996, Taiwan has held eight presidential elections and experienced three peaceful transfers of power, marking 30 years of democratic evolution. Both in academic scholarship and political practice, Taiwan has accumulated a wealth of invaluable local experience. In light of current global and regional dynamics, these experiences warrant further reflection on a constitutional democracy built upon direct elections.

Following the 2017 academic conference on "Direct Presidential Elections and Democratic Taiwan," this upcoming symposium brings together key witnesses and distinguished scholars of Taiwan's 30-year democratic development to share their insights.
